Traffic Reports – Oh Happy Days!!!

May 29, 2008

Here’s the picture.

We were lying in bed this morning, listening to the traffic reports after the news.  Oh, what a good feeling!!!

There were all sorts of diversions being put in place on one of the approach roads to Dublin for various reasons, and we knew what kind of traffic hell that was going to cause for commuters this morning.

Did that affect us?  Oh no, except of course to make us feel fantastic!

Four years ago we moved from Dublin to a rural area in the South East.  Traffic no longer plays the major role in our lives as it  used to do, and today I was reminded of that, and boy was that a Special Special Special Moment!!!!!

Wishing you countless Special Moments every day,

The Special Moments Journal Works!!!!

April 28, 2008

Yahoo!!!  People are getting REAL benefits from Special Moment Journalling!!!

I was at a Health Fair in Wexford yesterday – it was my first time to take a stand at a Health Fair with my Aura-Soma Bottles and I had a ball.  It was great to meet other therapists and chat to people who were interested in healing or spirituality.  Businsswise I earned some money from mini-consultations and sales of bottles, which was brilliant.

The Best Best Best bit, though, was that during the day 4 different people who had been at a talk I gave in Wexford 6 weeks ago or so, all came up to me at different times during the day to say the same thing – after my talk, they went out and got themselves a notebook and started to keep a Special Moments Journal – and they all said that they are really enjoying it and are keeping it up!!!  I was THRILLED.

It is so nice to tell someone about something that has really helped you and then to get feedback that it is working for them too.

Also, one of the women who was at that talk came and asked me to speak to a Women’s Group she runs so thats in the diary now, too.  Another opportunity to talk about Special Moments!

All round a great day – and a day filled with Special Moments – not least of which was having my kids and Tony help me with my stand set-up and taking everything down again.  They are getting so grown up and they were thrilled to be involved.

Special Moments really works – I knew it worked so well for me – and I get a huge thrill every time I hear that it works for other people too.

Wishing you countless Special Moments,

Liverpool F.C. – You Rock!!!

April 8, 2008

My God – the pressure!!!  The Murphy Family have just been watching the Liverpool -v- Arsenal game and it was nail-biting stuff!!  I must admit I didn’t watch until the last 15 minutes.  I was leaving the soccer fanatics to their passion and I was busy gardening, which is my passion.  However the shouts and roars eventually pulled me in, and when I got there I was hooked!!!

Liverpool won – the hubby is in fantastic form – the kids are delighted – the atmosphere is wonderful.  Concentrated Special Moments in the Murphy household.

I really enjoyed the moment, but I hadn’t quite registered it as a Special Moment until my son, Ciaran, said “Mam, you should put a post on your blog about this”.  Now there was another Special Moment right there – the kids really get the Special Moments philosophy, and I just love when they teach me and remind me about it.

Have to go – the texts are flying in from other Liverpool supporters and those that know well that this is a Liverpool FC house, through and through.

Shopping with Three Little Darlings!

October 22, 2007

Today was a really wet day here and the kids didn’t get to go out at breaktime in school at all.

A friend is just out of hospital today and she asked me to go into town to get her a message.  There was nothing for it but to take the 3 ‘darlings’ with me.  Hyperactive was not the word for it!!!  They were little busy bees buzzing around the supermarket.  I was completely addled and stressed out trying to find the item my friend needed.  Definitely not a Special Moment  in my day today!

Things improved greatly, though.  My husband phoned me to say he was on his way home from work.  He heard my irritation in my voice and offered to collect the kids from me to give me space to do the shopping.  Heaven!!  He appeared in the supermarket, smiling and calm.  He took the kids off and I got to finish my shopping in peace. My day got better and better from there.

Thank God for Earth Angels!!!

Mindfulness leads to Special Moments

April 5, 2007

A friend gave me a few handouts after a workshop she did on Mindfulness.  Of course, being absent-minded, I lost them!  Anyway, I found them today, and read them.

One very special handout was about multi-tasking actually lowers productivity, not raises it.  Now as a working mum, I have taken multi-tasking to a higher level.  I am constantly doing at least 2 things at a time.  In the past couple of weeks things have been crazy.  I am listening to my kids at the same time as reading my books for college.  Telephone conversations never happen unless I am tidying, ironing, working on the computer etc. at the same time. But guess what?  I haven’t noticed very many Special Moments in the last few weeks.

Today, I was very busy, but I only did one thing at a time – most of the time!  Today, I experienced quite a few Special Moments with my kids and with myself.  Mindfulness takes practice.  I had completely fallen out of the habit of it.  It means really feeling the water and the dishes when you are washing the dishes.  Really hearing the sounds around you.  Really feeling the keys while you are typing your blog entry!

Multi-tasking is how I live my life, but I don’t think it is good for me.  I don’t think it makes me happy.

Practice of mindfulness and doing one thing at a time continues…..

Ask and You Shall Receive

March 26, 2007

Here’s a slightly different topic for this blog – Angels!!

Angels have been a huge influence in my life.  I forget about them often, but when I think of them and include them in my life, magic happens.

Angels led me (several times – I don’t get hints very easily!) to my career change.  As most of you know, I’m currently doing a course in Horticulture, and loving nearly every minute of it.

Well, I have been troubled about what direction I’m going to take in this new world of gardening.  As is my usual pattern, I agonise over it privately, turning it over and over in my mind.  I use up loads of energy doing this, and I completely forget to rely on the invisible support of the Universe, the Divine, Angels, whatever you like to call it!

One day last week I was driving to my work experience job, and I asked the angels to give me a sign about the best path to take in my new career.  That day I got phonecalls giving me 3 different pieces of work in landscape gardening and design!  I was thrilled – then I was terrified – then I was thrilled and so on….

Today I went to see 3 of the gardens.  I came out feeling totally overwhelmed, under-skilled and terrified.  I phoned my husband (my earth angel!) and told him I was in completely over my head.  He started a new business 3 years ago, and he was having none of it!! He told me that this terror was just how it feels at the beginning, and I just have to step way out of my comfort zone and get through it.  I phoned a gardening student friend, expecting some sympathy, and she said exactly the same thing!  Angels talking to me again?

Anyway, I have spent the evening pouring over my plant books, asking the angels for help, and I have come up with the initial planting plan!

I am feeling very pleased with myself, and I am FEELING GOOD!  This evening was an evening filled with differrent kinds of Special Moments – moments with the kids, conversations with people that love and support me, and fabulous time dreaming about gorgeous plants and how they are going to look together.

That is my dream, my goal.  That is what I said I wanted.

Special Moments and My New Stove

March 2, 2007

We got a new stove – a wood burning stove – it is gorgeous, fantastic, cosy …..

It was installed 4 days ago, and it has brought so much happiness and such FEEL GOOD feelings.

Our kitchen is a cold kitchen.  It is on the North side of the house.  I have felt sad about this ever since we bought the house 3 years ago.

This week, finally, we got a stove for the kitchen and it has transformed the kitchen, and how we all are together in the kitchen.  It is cosy and warm now.  We have put a couple of cosy chairs beside the stove, and guess what?  We all end up sitting by the fire – kids on our knees – chatting, reading stories, talking about our day.

That stove is the best investment in Special Moments we have ever made!

What could you do to bring more Special Moments to your kitchen?

If you have any suggestions for me, please let me know.

Special Moments – 5th February 2007

February 5, 2007
  • A fantastic hug with my 5 year old daughter
  • Seeing my 10 year old bouncing in the door from school, feeling great
  • My 8 year old son telling me that he swam without a board for the first time at his swimming class today.  He was so pleased to have achieved that.
  • Feeling really connected with my husband – just that feeling that we really are in a good space with each other.  I really like him, you know!
  • Seeing the sun coming in shafts through the clouds today
  • Feeling a wonderful lift in my spirits when someone suggested a wonderful idea to solve a problem of lack of sunlight in my kitchen.  This one has been troubling me since we moved in 3 years ago, and today I think I was given the gift of a fantastic solution.
  • Hearing the news that my sister can babysit on Saturday night!!
  • Feeling like everything is just falling into place – like I am attracting answers to lots of different things.  It feels great, like opening up again – I had been feeling closed down for the past few days – I wonder if I hadn’t been feeling down, would I have missed this wonderful feeling of opening up?  There is a gift in everything!
